What is Tridentine Mass?
The Tridentine Mass is a common name for the form of the Roman Rite Mass contained in the typical editions[1] of the Roman Missal that were published from 1570 to 1962. It was the most widely celebrated Mass liturgy in the world during that time period (as the present form of the Roman Rite is today), and it was celebrated in the Latin language in nearly every country and region.
The term "Tridentine" is derived from the Latin word Tridentinus, which means "related to the city of Trent, Italy". It was in response to a decision of the Council of Trent that Pope Pius V promulgated the 1570 Roman Missal, making it mandatory throughout the Western Church, excepting those regions and religious orders whose existing missals dated from before 1370.
In 2007, Pope Benedict XVI issued a motu proprio entitled Summorum Pontificum, accompanied by a letter to the world's bishops. The Pope stated that the 1962 edition of the Roman Missal is to be considered as an "extraordinary form" (forma extraordinaria)[4] of the Roman Rite, of which the Missal as revised by Pope Paul VI in 1970 is the ordinary, normal or standard form. As a result, some refer to the 1962 Tridentine Mass as "the extraordinary form" of the Mass. It is also often referred to as the "usus antiquior" or "antiqua forma" (old use/old standard), to differentiate from the new rite in use since 1970.
The Mass is divided into two parts, the Mass of the Catechumens and the Mass of the Faithful. Catechumens, those being instructed in the faith, were once dismissed after the first half, not having yet professed the faith. Profession of faith was considered essential for participation in the Eucharistic sacrifice.
This rule of the Didache is still in effect. It is only one of the three conditions (baptism, right faith and right living) for admission to receiving Holy Communion that the Catholic Church has always applied and that were already mentioned in the early second century by Saint Justin Martyr: "And this food is called among us the Eucharist, of which no one is allowed to partake but the man who believes that the things which we teach are true, and who has been washed with the washing that is for the remission of sins, and unto regeneration, and who is so living as Christ has enjoined"

Filipino Catholics not fully aware on what is happening during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass

I created this blog just to share my views on the what most Filipino catholics knows about the meaning and the importance of the Mass and each part of the mass. For so many years now i have been fascinated on what we called as the old mass. I researched this old mass which eventually lead me back to the Catholic Church. I was baptized Catholic in the Latin Rite after Vatican II. Raised as a Catholic and underwent catechism in the school. I joioned church organization and have a personal relationship with God. I attended the holy mass, recieved communion and other sacraments, in short i lived as a catholic. But then the death of Pope John Paul II opened my eyes to the inner side of the catholic Faith. I felt this emptiness in my religion. Yes, i know God is with me but the question is whose god am i worshipping? I searched for this and eventually i found my religion in the internet. God gave me St. Francis of Assisi as my guide and thanks God i am back..

The Holy Eucharist is indeed the summit of our Christian Life. I started my new life focusing on the Eucharist and in the Holy Mass. But then for me to understand the importance and the beauty of the Mass i have to read articles not in the Novus Ordo Mass but in the Tridentine Mass. Why? I realized that the basic information on the sacrifice can be seen in the tridentine rite. That i knew right then that to appreciate and understand the Novus Ordo you have to learn the Tridentine rite. In the Tridentine Rite every action has a meaning. From the vestments to the gestures, the bells, prayers,and even the small unnoticeable actions has a meaning. And to understand this meaning then you will fully appreciate the Novus Ordo.

But this blog is intended for Filipinos. Why? Because i can say that the majority of the Filipino Catholics are only Catholic by name. Filipinos lacks catechism. Many Filipinos doesn't even know how to genuflect in front of our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament or sad to say they don't even know the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. I have observed many times the disrespect that is being shown to our Lord even with those people that are very active in their service in the parishes.

I am not a theologian so i will not discuss theology here. But i just want to share some truth on our faith.
